Details on pagecaching (IE) [home]
[what is it?]

With pagecaching turned on, IE downloads the pages you visit onto your hd. It does this up to a certain quota which you can set yourself. When you return to one of these "cached" pages IE doesn't load them of the internet but instead it uses the copy on your hd.

[why is it important?]
Testing my site I have found out that when I upload some new flash, IE refuses to play it. Instead, it uses some old copy that is cached away somewhere on my hd. Even hitting refresh does not work. This is of course, not a good situation. You too may secretly have been bothered by this problem for quite some time now never realising you've been watching old pages!

[what can be done?]

The easiest way to get rid of this problem is to turn of caching completely. This can be done by selecting (from the IE menu) Extra > Internet options this will create a new window with a button Settings... somewhere in the middle and to the right edge. Push this button and yet another window will open with 4 radiobuttons. Click the one at the top labeled everytime/every visit or something similar and press OK.

You might want to try some of the other settings too, like automatic but I haven't tested them myself. The method described above should always do the trick.

Always remember to check on TheSite version number at the index page and see if this number is the same as you will see in the flash. The TheSite will pop up immediatly after the intro and it will be in the lower left corner of the flashwindow.

After viewing my site, you might want to consider turning caching back on to some extent. Especiallly when you're a low-bandwith user. With most ordinary pages you can just hit refresh when you want to update. Too bad my site isn't so ordinary. :(

[if the above fails]

Point the mouse at the entrance logo on my index page, a pop-up hint should appear saying "2 the flash". Right click and choose save target as. This will allow you to save the exported flash movie (sitevXXX.swf) to your hd. Save it somewhere, anywhere. When it is downloaded play the flash movie on your hd. If this solves your problem, check if you can see the flash the normal way by left clicking on the entrance logo on the index page.

If you experience any troubles like mentioned above or any other troubles whatsoever, feel free to contact me. Just use one of the mail2 links or click here.
